E-mail on GPU ============= Progams which can be used to read e-mail: mail - the standard Berkeley mail reader. mh - a message handling system. elm - a screen-oriented mail reader. pine - a screen-oriented mail (and news) reader. utormail- a script to access UTORmail with pine. Programs which can be used to handle MIME encapsultions: mpack - send a file in MIME format munpack - unpack MIME messages In addition, e-mail messages on GPU can be read remotely via the net with the IMAP or POP protocols. This means that GPU e-mail is accessible for programs like Eudora, ECSmail, Simeon, Netscape, Pine, etc. Also, e-mail can be accessed using a web browser. The URL for that is "http://cns.utoronto.ca/mail/". Automatic forwarding of messages can be achieved by putting a new e-mail address into a file called .forward in your home directory. For more details, type "man forward" and look for the sub-section titled "Automatic Forwarding." Programs which can be called from the ~/.forward file: procmail - autonomous mail processor/filter. vacation - reply automatically during a vacation. For more details about any one of the above, please consult the online manuals via the "man" command (e.g. type "man mail" to get more information about the "mail" program). For further assistance, type "help me" at the 'gpu' prompt. Try using "learn" if you need to familiarize yourself with UNIX. For more details about the "utormail" script, type "utormail -help" Those wanting to use the vacation program on GPU to also reply to their UTORmail messages (their UTORmail messages are being forwarded to GPU), they should edit their ~/.forward file on GPU so that it looks like ... {login}, "|$MAILBIN/bin/vacation -a {utormail.address} {login}" where {login} is their GPU login id and where {utormail.name} is their UTORmail e-mail address. Note that {login} is in two places. If you happen to get unwanted or unsolicited e-mail (aka "junk mail"), please forward a copy of the message (with headers) to "postmaster." If you need an e-mail alias on GPU, notify the sysadmins by sending a request via e-mail to "usg". GPU users can also access their e-mail messages from "all over the net" via the POP or the IMAP mail access protocol. GPU users can be reached using a number of e-mail addresses (see below) but the recommended e-mail address is "user@utcc.utoronto.ca". E-mail addresses handled by GPU: utcc.utoronto.ca utcc.toronto.edu utcs.utoronto.ca utcs.toronto.edu cns.utoronto.ca cns.toronto.edu gpu.utcc.utoronto.ca gpu.utcc.toronto.edu gpu.utcs.utoronto.ca gpu.utcs.toronto.edu utgpu.UUCP utorgpu.BITNET
