My impression was it was quite common to use the local bookmarks file as your home page to achieve the same effect.</p>

I use tags and search-as-you-type. Adding '*' searches only bookmarks; '+' searches only within bookmark tags.</p>
<p>It's the "power user" side that makes the "awesomebar" so well-rounded. (Conspiracy theory: tags aren't available in Chrome because they need to keep people dependent on web search).</p>
<p>According to my Sync quota, I have 1Mb of bookmarks. Possibly I have a few too many <em>tags</em> now; I could do with a better way of organizing them.</p>
<p>Re-organizing the bookmarks can be time-consuming, especially if you have to wait on a cheap netbook SSD. I think that's improved somewhat since the original sqlite-based release.</p>
