that I made it an entry, <a href="https://utcc.utoronto.ca/~cks/space/blog/tech/WhyNoCDRipping">WhyNoCDRipping</a>.</p>

I think that a plugin could easily be written to eject CDs. I would suggest that you rip them, though.</p>

<table class="wikitable horizontal"><tr><td valign="top">grip</td>
<td valign="top">Looks pretty, except for the bit where it doesn't seem
to have direct digital playback (which is ironic in a
CD ripping application). It also has no end of disc eject.</td>
</tr>
<tr><td valign="top">amarok & rhythmbox</td>
<td valign="top">No end of disc eject or total time remaining display,
and the interface is overly cluttered for just
playing CDs.</td>
</tr>
</table>
<p>All of them feel like I am swatting a dragonfly with a large sledgehammer.
I don't need a media player that maintains playlists and a library and all
that; I just want a CD player.</p>
<p>(Amarok does earn bonus points for having the same name as a very good
Mike Oldfield album.)</p>
