alternative (although I believe that there are problems with that for
portable code, per <a href="https://utcc.utoronto.ca/~cks/space/blog/python/OsListdirProblem">OsListdirProblem</a>). There are other areas where
Python talks to the Unix world that have worse issues.</p>
