Which is more than you can say for documentation. But there is a largish environment around a script which is relevant for being able to run it successfully. </p>
<p>Scripts can also go out of date at the drop of a hat for a variety of reasons, primarily changes in that environment. It's impossible to fully insulate scripts from their environment, and definitely not worth attempting to do so for many (most?) scripts that get written.</p>
