UNIX permissions are great because they are simple, and something you can succinctly display in the output of an 'ls' command. Contrast this with permissions on Windows, which are almost always screwed up and require a very big effort to audit. The fact that they cannot be seen easily during normal interaction is a huge problem that makes them very difficult to manage.</p>
