The whole vibe of this place is really comfy. Um, i love it. I like the laid back prose, the chill navigation. You really just want to share useful writing, it seems, and you've got your priorities straight. Balance of humble and no nonsense. Glad to have stumbled in here

I disagree a little bit with your position against web-based editing; although, I do agree with your opinion on public editing. I turned off public editing on my wiki. I use my wiki for my personal engineering notes. I don't mind making my notes public, but they are primarily for my benefit.

I use a customized version of MediaWiki. The search tools, index, and easy editing through the MediaWiki interface allow me to quickly browse my notes and make edits. Often, I'll be clicking around, reading my notes and see something I want to change. I can make a change quickly without having to change tools.

I do agree that it's convenient to have a command-line interface to a wiki. One of the down-sides of MediaWiki is that there is no good interface for editing from the command-line. I'm a Vim user and I've often wished I could just edit articles directly from Vim -- especially longer articles. Editing through a browser is so-so, but obviously much less powerful than editing in a good text editor... There is an extension to MediaWiki that allow editing from Vim, but last time I looked it seemed pretty hacky.
